Australian Hardwoods
Australian Hardwoods – good steady demand for Australian Oak and Jarrah. We are about to start stocking and distributing another Australian East Coast hardwood species as we scout out a good non tropical hardwood decking species. Disappointment over the supply of Jarrah and the high cost increases in Black Butt meant trying to find something that is workable. We thus have our first shipments of Spotted Gum underway. Spotted Gum (Corymbia maculata) is endemic to the East Coast of Australia and is an Above Ground Class 1 durable species. It is not as prone to checking and splits as Black Butt and we are stocking and selling it pre oiled and as it comes PEFC certified it is a great choice to save some Tropical rainforests. The oiling is Cabots’s (Feast Watson) Natural Oil. Cabot’s have written up a maintenance specification. The Spotted Gum will be 22mm thick and as such means its more stable and stronger as well. The supply has been increased in thickness to 22mm to reflect that it is able to span 600mm joist spacing at 22mm thick. This obviously offers considerable sub frame cost savings
