Black Butt decking a new non tropical choice

A big deal for us has been our appointment by Boral as Preferred distributor for their Black Butt decking which we are offering ONLY as a pre coated product. This PEFC certified decking is a NON TROPICAL option and we think is a FAB option. BLACK BUTT is an Australian Hardwood from NSW that is sourced from Forests NSW and the plantations are managed for wildlife, lumber, recreation, as well as other uses. The timber is a class 1 durable species sure to please those that do not want to see more of the Amazon cut down and it comes with PEFC certification. We chose to pre coat the Black Butt because in Australia most people coat their decks and the coating of decks is just good trade practice.  Check out www.timspec.co.nz under down loads for a flyer on Black Butt decking and a handling and installation guide for installing and handling hardwood decking.

The species is a non bleeding product and so good around areas where bleeding could be an issue. It is widely used in Australia. We think all hardwood decking should be coated, it extends the life as well as improving the performance of all timbers, by protecting them from moisture and UV.

Supply chains are groaning at demand for key items. The growth in demand after the GFC has been slow and has seen a large number of sawmills here in NZ and elsewhere close and go broke. This is leading to shortages in supply as the remaining suppliers struggle to cope.

Data we see coming through suggest continuing demand for building materials and weather boards as an example are flying out the door. So prospects for Building Supply merchants should be okay.

2015 has so far seen record sales levels but increasing pressure on margins as we see desperate sellers. Contradictory on so many levels but a fact. We ended the financial year 31st March with 2 record months in a row.
