March 2013

Staff News

As is our norm we ended 2012 with a BBQ at work in Auckland and below is a photo of most of us indulging in a sausage and beer or two.

Nathan Stirling who had accumulated over 10 years with Timspec and before that Timpan City resigned in February he will be badly missed. Nathan is a very smart young fellow who will do well where ever he goes and we all wish him well. After 13 years with us Kevin Forrest ( or Tree) is off to Foxton Beach and is retiring at the end of March 2013. Kevin will be greatly missed. Kevin joined up in 2000 after 36 + years with T J McIlwaines and so is very well know in the market down in the Southern North Island. Kevin we all wish you well too.

Jamie Young based in Wellington will be looking after Kevin's flock. Together with some other changes we have had more departures and changes than at any other time in our 23 years. We have a new man starting in Auckland in a sales coordination role, Alan Owen joins us at the end of March and he comes to us with some background in Joinery and brings some great skills.

In Christchurch we are still seeking a Builders Rep, although we have found an orderman.

In Carterton Shane Wilson ( our new Site Manager) is settling in extremely well and the team there is in great spirits.

In Auckland we are still mulling over whether to move and if we did, where and can we afford it. We really need more room and better quality office accomodations.

Demand for Accoya is growing with sales being made into the Cladding, decking, verandah, bridge decking, and landscaping sectors.

The increasing number of houses being built and renovated does mean more business. The slow commercial building market and a generally lacklustre economy is a caution. How we all cope with cost increases is also a challenge.

A few issues to consider. Three supply chains in particular showing signs of stress. Solomon Islands timbers, Canadian, Western Red Cedar and finally Tasmanian Oak/Victorian Ash. The other interesting story here is the changing position of tropical hardwoods.

Fantastic sales, great interest and Johnny doing heaps of presentations. Sales growth is strong, with new demand for Accoya from Joiners and others from all over NZ.
