New Zealand Indigenous Stocks

Architecture Round Up

what rimu should look like

New Zealand Indigenous – steady supplies it does appear that the windfall bulge in supply has not eventuated to the extent that was expected. Certainly some product has come to market but decay and bugs are now taking more. The decline in furniture manufacture in NZ has seen less and less customers and less demand from this sector for Rimu. There remains a steady market for Rimu T&G mainly for renovation of homes with it already present. It is not an ideal timber for T&G being softwood and hence not as hard as the Hardwoods we see more of today. It is relatively expensive as well.

Rimu – steady supply but being careful about not carrying too much stock as sales slow due to costs and less and less furniture makers buying the stuff.

Matai – steady trickle of supply and mainly being used for T&G Flooring

Supply chains are groaning at demand for key items. The growth in demand after the GFC has been slow and has seen a large number of sawmills here in NZ and elsewhere close and go broke. This is leading to shortages in supply as the remaining suppliers struggle to cope.

Data we see coming through suggest continuing demand for building materials and weather boards as an example are flying out the door. So prospects for Building Supply merchants should be okay.
