Building Round Up

Building & Construction Round Up

Building consent data continues to report strong building activity although anecdotal evidence suggests things are slowing down a little. Hard to understand and or predict. Building consent data is certainly looking robust. The number of cranes on the Auckland skyline is said to be 90? Strange how we are seeing and are all so busy but the number of players not making any money is scary. Symptomatic of an out of control industry?

Some seriously interesting changes happening all around with the growth in demand for wooden cladding and in particular vertical profiles. The diversity of options grows all the time from cheap Radiata products from China to the top of the line Accoya.

Master Builders Awards saw a number of projects we were involved with included in the Awards. Photos show off some of the work.

The biggest issue we see and hear out and about is the struggle to get qualified staff and the lack of skills is a big problem for growth as we cannot do more building if we lack the people with skills to do the work. It is of course not just the building but the planning, management, quantity surveying and other skills required, that are in short supply.
